About Segway
Segway started in 1999 in Bedford, New Hampshire, where inventor Dean Kamen built the self-balancing Segway PT that launched in 2001. The two-wheeled transporter became a fixture of tour groups, airports, and police patrols. In 2015 the Beijing mobility company Ninebot bought the brand, and Segway-Ninebot went on to build the kick scooters that stock rental fleets in cities across the US.
E-bikes came later. Segway showed its first two, the Xafari and the Xyber, at CES 2025 and opened pre-orders through independent dealers the same week. At CES 2026 it added the Myon commuter and the MUXI utility bike, both aimed at a broader market and priced at $1,999 and $1,699.
The through-line is electronics. Every Segway e-bike runs the Intelligent Ride System: AirLock proximity locking with an alarm, Apple Find My and GPS tracking, over-the-air updates, and a color TFT display that adjusts its own brightness. The Myon and MUXI add a Lost Mode that disables the bike or the battery remotely if it is stolen.

Segway’s US e-bike catalogue is short, and four of its models are street-legal Class 1, 2, or 3 e-bikes. The Xafari is the all-terrain cruiser: a step-through frame on 26 x 3.0-inch Kenda tires, with a 750W motor, 80 Nm of torque, a 936 Wh battery rated for up to 88 miles, and Class 2 (20 mph) or Class 3 (28 mph) modes. The Myon is the commuter, with a 500W motor that peaks at 1,500W, electronic shifting, a 722 Wh battery good for up to 80 miles, and selectable Class 1, Class 2, or Class 3 operation.
The MUXI is a short-tail utility bike that sits between a beach cruiser and a compact cargo bike, with a 750W motor, a 717 Wh battery, and up to 80 miles of range. The MUXI Pro is the full family hauler: 20 x 3.0-inch tires, electronic auto shifting, and a 418 lb maximum payload, which is the use case stand-alone cargo bike insurance is built around. Two Segway machines sit outside this list. Segway rates the Xyber for off-road use only, at up to 43 mph, and the Xaber 300 is an electric dirt bike. Segway's Warranty: What It Covers and Where It Stops
Segway backs each e-bike with a two-year limited warranty that is issued per model. Five terms decide what that is worth to you.
Two years on the frame, motor, and electronics
The two-year term covers the frame, front fork, rear wheel motor assembly, controller, display, and charger, counted from the first purchase of the new bike. Easily worn parts such as brake pads, chains, tires, and the saddle get 30 days.
Battery: two years or 500 charging cycles
Battery coverage ends at whichever occurs first. The battery is designed to maintain over 70% of its original capacity during that period.
Parts and labor are free, shipping is not
For a covered defect, the warranty provides parts and labor free of charge. The owner pays to ship or deliver the defective bike or part to Segway or an authorized service provider.
The remaining warranty transfers to the next owner
The first owner can transfer the remaining warranty to a subsequent owner. The new owner must show the first purchaser's purchase receipt to use it.
Defects only: accident and collision damage are excluded
The exclusions list damage caused by accident or collision, along with other external causes. Those are the losses a Velosurance policy is built for.
