How the Velosurance discount program works
Velosurance offers four discount programs that lower the bicycle coverage premium on your policy. Three of them apply to active members of the cycling and triathlon governing bodies that serve our customers; the fourth applies whenever more than one bicycle is scheduled on the same policy. The multi-bike discount stacks with whichever single membership-based discount you qualify for.

See how it worksWhy Velosurance offers discounts
Velosurance was founded by dedicated cyclists, for cyclists. We live and breathe this sport. We spend our weekends on group rides, grinding gravel on country roads, and singletrack. We are active members of cycling clubs, we volunteer at races, we work with land managers and trail advocacy groups, and get dirty ourselves, and we advocate at the city and state level for safer streets, protected bike lanes, and the kind of micromobility infrastructure that makes cycling a real transportation option, not just a hobby. That perspective is the reason Velosurance exists, and it shapes everything from how we underwrite a policy to how we structure our discount program. Bicycle insurance, in our view, should reward the riders who take their sport seriously: the ones who own multiple bikes, hold active racing licenses, or fund the advocacy work that keeps trails and bike lanes open. From our own experience on the bike and from years of underwriting data, those riders tend to be more engaged, more knowledgeable, and more careful with the equipment they own. They follow the rules of the road and the trail. To reward them for advancing the sport, we pass a portion of that benefit back to our customers as a discount on their annual premium.
Velosurance was built for cyclists, not adapted from a generic homeowners or property policy. Where mainstream carriers treat a bicycle as personal property, we underwrite around how you ride, what you ride, and which cycling communities you belong to.
The multi-bike discount: 10% on two bikes, 15% on three or more
After more than a decade of writing policies for cyclists across the country, we confirmed what we guessed from the beginning: most enthusiasts own at least two bikes, and many own three. A road bike for fast group rides, a gravel bike for mixed-surface days, perhaps a mountain bike for the weekends, and a commuter or e-bike for errands. When all of those bikes are insured under a single Velosurance policy, the multi-bike discount applies automatically. Two bikes earn a 10% discount on the bicycle coverage premium. Three or more bikes earn 15%.
There is real underwriting logic behind the discount. A cyclist can only ride one bike at a time, so on a multi-bike policy the in-use exposure at any given moment is no greater than it would be on a single-bike policy — the other bikes are at home in a controlled storage environment, with crash and theft risk that is materially lower than the bike being ridden. Total risk is diminished and spread across the schedule, and the discount reflects that reality rather than functioning as a marketing gesture.
The discount applies whether the bikes belong to one person or are shared across a household. A cycling couple, a parent and a junior racer, or two siblings under the same roof can all combine bikes under one policy. Road, gravel, mountain, e-bike, and other formats all count toward the threshold.
The USA Cycling membership discount: 10%
USA Cycling is the national governing body for the sport in the United States, sanctioning road, mountain, gravel, cyclocross, BMX, and track events and issuing racing licenses at every level. Velosurance offers a 10% discount on your bicycle coverage premium to any cyclist with an active USA Cycling membership at the time the policy is bound or renewed.
The discount recognizes that USA Cycling members tend to be more experienced and more invested in their bikes than the average rider. Race-day risk is real, but everyday training crashes and theft from a transport rack are where most claims actually come from, and those are exactly the exposures a Velosurance policy is designed to cover.
USA Cycling now uses a base membership plus add-on structure, so a discount-eligible member can be anyone from a recreational rider holding only the base membership to a category-licensed racer with mechanic, coach, or commissaire endorsements. All active members qualify, and we confirm membership at the time of quote or renewal.
The USA Triathlon membership discount: 10%
Velosurance offers a 10% discount on the bicycle coverage premium to riders with an active USA Triathlon membership. A tri bike is high-value equipment that travels often and spends meaningful time outside the rider's direct control, which is exactly the exposure profile a Velosurance policy is built for.
USA Triathlon offers tiered annual memberships, and the discount applies to any of the annual tiers (Silver, Gold, or Platinum). Bronze single-event memberships do not qualify. Members of the USA Triathlon community are also eligible to compete in the World Triathlon Age Group World Championships, and Velosurance offers worldwide coverage as an option for athletes who travel internationally for racing.
Most age-group triathletes own both a tri bike and a road bike, and the USA Triathlon discount stacks with the multi-bike discount on the same policy.
The IMBA discount: 10% for International Mountain Bicycling Association members
The International Mountain Bicycling Association is the largest advocacy organization for off-road cycling in the world. IMBA's members fund trail building, defend access to public lands, and support the network of local chapters that keep singletrack open. Velosurance offers a 10% discount on the bicycle coverage premium to active IMBA members.
Mountain bikers face exposures most road riders rarely encounter. Trail crashes can damage drivetrains, derailleurs, dropper posts, wheels, and frames in ways that road bikes rarely see. Transport on hitch racks over long distances to ride a local or far-off trail creates its own risk of theft and impact damage. A Velosurance policy is designed for that mix, and the IMBA discount reduces its cost.
Individual IMBA memberships are accessible, with adult memberships at a modest annual rate and youth memberships lower still. Members of a local IMBA chapter typically qualify via IMBA's dual membership program.
Proof of membership and eligibility
Membership discounts
Memberships must be current and active for a discount to apply. We may request your membership number to confirm eligibility at the time of policy issue or renewal.
Multi-bike discount
The multi-bike discount is verified through the bike schedule itself. Every bike that counts toward the discount is listed individually with its serial number, agreed value, and supporting documentation such as a sales receipt or a recent photo. The same documentation that qualifies a bike for the discount also protects the policyholder in the event of a claim.
How to apply a discount to a quote or renewal
When you request a quote, you will be asked which bikes you want to insure and whether you hold a membership with USA Cycling, USA Triathlon, or IMBA. The discount is applied automatically before the premium is finalized; we may follow up to request your membership number if we need to confirm eligibility, but there is no separate application, no coupon code, and no waiting period. At renewal, the discount carries forward as long as the underlying membership and bike schedule remain in place. If you have added a bike or joined one of the qualifying associations during the year, update your policy so the renewal premium reflects the change.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the multi-bike discount be combined with a membership discount?
Yes. The multi-bike discount and the three membership-based discounts (USA Cycling, USA Triathlon, IMBA) are separate categories and stack on the same policy. A household with three bikes scheduled and an active USA Cycling membership, for example, receives both the 15% multi-bike discount and the 10% USA Cycling discount on the bicycle coverage premium.
What if I belong to more than one of the eligible cycling organizations?
Memberships in multiple organizations do not produce multiple discounts. A cyclist who is an active member of both USA Cycling and IMBA, for instance, receives a single 10% membership-association discount, not two separate ones. The multi-bike discount, by contrast, applies in addition to whichever single membership discount you qualify for.
Do e-bikes count toward the multi-bike discount?
Yes. E-bikes are included on the same terms as traditional bicycles. A pedal-assist e-mountain bike, a Class 1 e-road bike, and an e-cargo bike all count toward the two-bike and three-bike thresholds, and each is scheduled individually with its own agreed value reflecting the higher replacement cost typical of e-bikes.
What happens to my discount if my membership lapses during the policy term?
The discount is honored through the end of the policy term in which the membership lapsed. Renewal of the discount the following year depends on whether the underlying membership has been renewed. Members who use auto-renewal with their cycling association tend to maintain continuous eligibility without any manual coordination.
Does the discount apply to my entire premium?
The discount applies to the bicycle coverage premium, which is the largest component of most policies. Fees, taxes, and add-on coverages that are priced separately are not part of the discount calculation.
