About Quintana Roo
Quintana Roo invented the triathlon bike. Dan Empfield founded the company in 1987, and in 1989 he designed the Superform, the first bicycle purpose-built for the sport. Empfield’s first product was actually the first triathlon-specific wetsuit, which he sewed himself after working out that the right suit cut seconds per hundred yards in the water.
The brand has built triathlon bikes, and almost only triathlon bikes, ever since. Its frames lean on aerodynamic tube shaping and tri-specific geometry, and the V-PRi set the record for the fastest Ironman bike split ever recorded. In February 2025, Quintana Roo became the official bike supplier of IRONMAN.
Quintana Roo is based in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and sells direct through a build customizer. The V-PRi, V-PR, and X-PR are the elite triathlon platforms, the SRfive and SRsix are the aero road bikes, and the Service Course family covers fast all-road and draft-legal racing. The entry Espada keeps the brand’s purpose-built tri geometry accessible.
