About Colnago
Colnago is one of the defining names in Italian road racing. Ernesto Colnago opened his shop in Cambiago, near Milan, in 1954 and built his first frames the same year. The brand made its name on steel race frames that held up to professional racing, then became one of cycling’s most experimental builders and an early adopter of carbon fiber.
Colnago’s race record is long. Eddy Merckx rode Colnago, and the brand’s bikes have won the Tour de France, the Giro, and the Classics across seven decades. Tadej Pogacar now races Colnago for UAE Team Emirates, and the V5Rs and Y1Rs were developed with direct input from his team. Chimera Investments acquired a majority stake in 2020, but Colnago still builds in Italy.
Colnago builds road bikes, and builds them at the top of the market. The Y1Rs is the aero flagship, the V5Rs is the lightest Colnago ever, and the V4Rs and V3 carry the race platform to more riders. The C68 and C72 continue the brand’s handmade lugged-carbon tradition, the Steelnovo and Master keep steel alive, the G3-X covers gravel, and the TT1 is the time-trial bike.
Most popular Colnago models
Colnago’s race range is split by purpose. The Y1Rs is the aero bike Tadej Pogacar rode at the Tour de France, with a 19% smaller frontal area than the V4Rs. The V5Rs is the lightest frame Colnago has ever made at 685 grams, and the V4Rs and V3 bring the race geometry to more accessible builds.
The C68 and C72 are Colnago’s handmade lugged-carbon frames, each assembled by hand in Italy. The Steelnovo and Master keep the brand’s steel heritage in production, the G3-X is the gravel bike, and the TT1 is the time-trial machine. Colnago frames carry replacement values that run from premium to extraordinary, which is where standalone road bike insurance fills the gap.
