About Yeti
Yeti Cycles was founded in 1985 by John Parker, a welder who built Hollywood movie sets before turning to mountain bikes. The company started in California, then moved to Durango, Colorado in 1991 to be closer to the sport’s racing scene after the first Mountain Bike World Championships were held there. Yeti has built only mountain bikes for its entire history.
After a turbulent stretch under Schwinn and Volant ownership, employees Chris Conroy and Steve Hoogendoorn bought the company in 2001 and restored its independence. Yeti now operates from Golden, Colorado, and its bikes run the patented Switch Infinity suspension, a translating pivot that changes direction through the travel to keep pedaling efficient on climbs without losing sensitivity on descents. The brand has a deep race history in World Cup downhill and enduro.
Yeti builds across the mountain bike spectrum. The ARC is the carbon hardtail, the ASR races cross-country, and the SB120 covers down-country. The SB135, SB140, SB160, and SB165 step up through trail and enduro travel, and the MTe and LTe bring Switch Infinity to e-MTB. Every model is offered in C-Series and lighter Turq-Series carbon layups.
Most popular Yeti models
Yeti’s lineup climbs through travel. The ARC is the carbon cross-country hardtail, the ASR is the 115mm full-suspension XC race bike, and the SB120 is the down-country option for riders who want efficiency with a little more capability. Each runs the kind of geometry Yeti has refined through decades of racing.
From there the suspension grows. The SB135 and SB140 are the trail bikes, the SB160 is the 29-inch enduro platform, and the SB165 is the long-travel park and enduro bike. The MTe and LTe add motor assist while keeping the Switch Infinity suspension. Yeti’s bikes carry replacement values well above what a homeowner’s policy typically covers, which is where standalone mountain bike insurance fills the gap.
