About Pivot
Pivot Cycles started in 2007 in Tempe, Arizona, founded by Chris Cocalis after he sold his previous company, Titus Cycles. Cocalis brought a clear engineering point of view: build the lightest, stiffest carbon frames possible and tune the suspension to pedal as well as it descends.
Every full-suspension Pivot runs the dw-link system designed by Dave Weagle, the same linkage logic Pivot has refined across nearly two decades. Pivot molds its frames with a hollow-core process for high stiffness-to-weight, and the bikes consistently land near the top of their class on the scale. The brand sells through dealers, not direct, and positions at the premium end.
Pivot races across every mountain discipline through Pivot Factory Racing, from World Cup cross-country to enduro and downhill. The current lineup covers all of it: the Mach 4 SL and Les SL for XC, the Trailcat and Switchblade for trail, the Firebird and Phoenix for enduro and downhill, the Shuttle family for electric mountain biking, and the Vault for gravel.
Most popular Pivot models
Pivot’s range is built around mountain discipline. The Mach 4 SL is the cross-country race bike, the Les SL is the carbon XC hardtail, and the Les SL Drop Bar takes that hardtail platform to gravel. The Trailcat SL and Trailcat LT are the mid-travel trail bikes, the Shadowcat is the 27.5-inch trail bike for smaller riders and tighter terrain, and the Switchblade is the do-everything trail and light-enduro platform.
The Firebird is Pivot’s enduro race bike and the Phoenix is the full-on downhill machine. The Shuttle SL is the lightweight electric mountain bike and the Shuttle LT is the full-power, long-travel e-MTB, while the Vault covers drop-bar gravel and cyclocross. A high-end Pivot build runs past $13,000, and a carbon frame is expensive to replace after a crash or a theft, which is why stand-alone mountain bike insurance is worth carrying.
