About Co-op Cycles
Co-op Cycles is REI’s own bike brand, sold exclusively at REI stores and on REI.com. REI, the outdoor co-op founded in Seattle in 1938, sold its house-brand bikes as Novara for decades and relaunched them as Co-op Cycles in 2017. The brand says it starts each design by talking with riders, and it builds its bikes to be customized and upgraded.
The model names are a code. CTY is the city and hybrid line, ADV is adventure and gravel, DRT is dirt, and REV is kids. The first digit is the series and the second the trim, so a DRT 1.3 sits above a DRT 1.1, and an “e” marks an e-bike. Every Co-op Cycles e-bike on sale today is Class 1: pedal assist up to 20 mph, with hub motors from Bafang and SR Suntour on the city bikes and a Bosch Performance Line mid-drive on the DRT e1.1.
Prices are the point. The current adult range runs from $659 for a CTY 1.1 to $3,199 for the DRT e1.1. REI shops assemble and service the bikes, and the brand’s owner’s manual sends every inspection and warranty question back to your local REI.

Off pavement, the DRT hardtails climb in three steps: the DRT 1.1 ($679) with a 100 mm SR Suntour fork and a 2x8 drivetrain, the DRT 1.2 ($1,189) with a 120 mm fork and microSHIFT Advent X 1x10, and the DRT 1.3 ($1,599) with a RockShox Judy air fork, Shimano Deore 1x12, and a dropper post. The DRT e1.1 ($3,199) adds a Bosch Performance Line motor with 75 Nm and a 500 Wh battery. The ADV 2.1 ($1,499) is the gravel and bikepacking bike, with a carbon fork, 700c x 45 mm tires, and mounts everywhere.
In town, the CTY 1.1 ($659) is the fitness hybrid and the CTY 2.1 ($879) adds a suspension fork and a 1x8 drivetrain, in standard and step-through frames. The electric line is all Class 1: the low-step CTY e2.1 ($1,799) with a 418 Wh battery, the CTY e1.1 ($1,299), and the compact Generation e1.2 ($1,899) with 20-inch wheels, two racks, and a 672 Wh battery. These are bikes that get locked outside offices, stores, and trailheads, and commuter bike insurance covers theft, subject to the policy’s locking conditions, along with crash damage.
The aluminum fitness hybrid: upright geometry, 700c x 40 mm Kenda tires, disc brakes, a Shimano Altus rear derailleur, and mounts for racks, fenders, and bags.
The pavement-first city bike that also handles dirt paths, with an upright position, a 63 mm SR Suntour suspension fork, and a Shimano Essa 1x8 drivetrain. Also sold as a step-through.
The low-step Class 1 city e-bike: an SR Suntour 250 W hub motor with 60 Nm, a removable 418 Wh battery, pedal assist up to 20 mph, an 80 mm suspension fork, and Tektro hydraulic disc brakes.
The entry Class 1 e-bike, with a Bafang 250 W hub motor (45 Nm), a removable 450 Wh battery, pedal assist up to 20 mph, and Schwalbe Big Ben 27.5 x 1.95 inch tires.
The 20-inch-wheel Class 1 utility e-bike with front and rear racks: a Bafang 350 W hub motor with 80 Nm, a removable 672 Wh battery, and a Shimano Altus 7-speed drivetrain, at 54 pounds.
The aluminum adventure and gravel bike, with a full carbon fork, a SRAM UDH dropout, a microSHIFT Sword 1x10 drivetrain, 700c x 45 mm Kenda Piedmont tires, and multiple accessory mounts.

The Co-op Cycles Warranty: What It Covers and Where It Stops
Co-op Cycles bikes carry REI's 100% Satisfaction Guarantee and Limited Warranty, a few sentences in the owner's manual rather than a schedule of years. Five terms decide what that is worth to you.
One year to return a bike you are not satisfied with
If you are not satisfied with an REI purchase, you can return it for a replacement or refund within one year. Items bought from REI Outlet must be returned within 30 days.
Manufacturing defects have no deadline
If the bike has a manufacturing defect in its materials or workmanship, you can return it at any time. Co-op Cycles are sold exclusively at REI, so the claim goes to your local REI store.
The frame warranty covers workmanship, not lifespan
The manual says Co-op Cycles frames carry a warranty to cover issues with workmanship and materials, and that it does not mean the frame will last forever. It asks owners to have frames and components checked periodically by REI or another professional mechanic.
Cable rub, trainer clamps, and loose bottle cages are excluded
Wear from cable housing rubbing the frame or the chain contacting the chainstay is not covered. Neither is harm from an incompatible or badly mounted indoor trainer, or from a loose bottle cage pulling on the frame inserts.
Defects only: accident damage is excluded
REI's guarantee does not cover ordinary wear and tear or improper use. Damage caused by accidents is excluded too, and the manual says frame damage from an impact or crash is not covered by the REI Limited Warranty. Those are the losses a Velosurance policy is built for.
