About Lauf
Lauf started with a prosthetic foot. Benedikt Skulason, an R&D engineer at an Icelandic maker of composite prosthetic feet, and industrial designer Gudberg Bjornsson founded the company in Reykjavik in December 2010 to build a suspension fork with no pivots, no seals, and no oil: carbon legs on glass-fiber leaf springs. The Trail Racer XC fork came first, tuned on Iceland’s volcanic rock and lava-black gravel.
Gravel made the name. The Grit fork, with 30mm of travel, became Lauf’s best seller as US gravel racing took off, and the True Grit of 2018 turned the fork maker into a bike brand. Lauf then dropped its dealers and went direct to consumer, and today’s Seigla carries the same idea with clearance for 57mm tires.
The bikes are assembled in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where Lauf moved final assembly from Taiwan in late 2023 and ships every bike with a mechanic’s inspection video. The range now covers gravel, road, cross-country mountain bikes, and a TQ-powered e-MTB, and every Lauf-made frame, fork, and handlebar carries a seven-year warranty for the first owner.
Most popular Lauf models
Gravel is the core. The Seigla is Lauf’s race bike, built around the third-generation Grit leaf-spring fork, clearance for 700 x 57mm tires, and the compliance-fiber Smoothie handlebar, with builds from SRAM Transmission to RED AXS on Zipp 303 XPLR wheels. The Seigla Rigid puts the same frame on the rigid JAF carbon fork for a lighter, simpler front end. A carbon race bike in the $3,000 to $7,000 range, ridden hard at Unbound and The Rift, is what dedicated gravel bike insurance is written for.
Road and dirt round it out. The Uthald is the road bike, launched in 2023, with complete builds from 18.1 lbs down to 16.1 lbs in size medium. The Elja is the cross-country mountain bike, with 120mm of LSP single-pivot rear travel, a 130mm fork, and room for 29 x 3.0-inch tires. The eElja adds a TQ HPR60 mid-drive, a 360Wh battery with an optional 160Wh range extender, and 130mm of travel at 36.6 to 39 lbs. Lauf lists its bikes in USD and ships from Virginia, so the ranges below are its current US web prices.

Lauf's Warranty: What It Covers and Where It Stops
Lauf warrants every Lauf-made frame, fork, and handlebar against material and manufacturing defects for seven years. Five terms decide what that is worth to you.
Seven years for the first owner
Lauf products come with a 7-year warranty from the original purchase date, covering material and manufacturing defects for the first owner. It covers all Lauf-made components: frames, forks, and handlebars.
Two years if you buy it used
Second-hand owners are covered for 2 years from the original delivery date, verified by the frame or fork serial number. A four-year-old Lauf bought used therefore has no warranty left.
Rebuild labor only with prior approval
Lauf may cover reasonable bike rebuilding labor for an approved replacement, but the quote must be reviewed and approved by Lauf in advance and proof of payment provided afterward. General service, maintenance, and repair labor are not covered, and claims typically take 5 to 15 business days.
Trailers, mods, and paint are on you
Paint damage after delivery, modifications to the frame, fork, or handlebars (drilling, sanding, repainting), use of trailers or towing devices, and damage from improper transport, packing, or storage are not covered. Correct assembly, torque, bearing checks, and regular servicing are the owner's responsibility.
Defects only: crashes are excluded
Misuse, neglect, and crashes fall outside the warranty, which points crash victims to its separate Crash Replacement program instead. Those are the losses a Velosurance policy is built for.
Summary of the Lauf Cycles Warranty Policy, reviewed September 30, 2026. Applies to Lauf-made products (frames, forks, and handlebars) for the first owner from the original purchase date. Third-party components such as the groupset, wheels, and saddle are covered by their own manufacturers, and Lauf aims to handle claims consistently worldwide. The manufacturer decides every warranty claim, and its full published terms govern.
