About Catrike
Catrike was founded in 2000 by Paulo Camasmie, a Brazilian mechanical engineer who moved his family to the United States to build the best recumbent trike he could design. The company set up in Orlando, Florida, where every trike still begins as raw aluminum tubing that is cut, bent, welded, painted, and assembled under one roof.
Catrike builds tadpole trikes: two steering wheels up front, one driven wheel at the rear, on stiff frames made from aerospace-grade 6061 aluminum. The brand introduced its full-suspension platform on the Dumont in 2015 and has refined low-slung, high-performance geometry across two decades. The Manufacturers Association of Central Florida named Catrike its Manufacturer of the Year in 2008, and the Manufacturers Association of Florida did the same in 2009.
Today Catrike sells nine core models, from the compact Pocket to the grand-touring 5.5.9 and the full-suspension Dumont, and every one is offered with a Bosch Smart System electric-assist eCat option. The company marked its 25th year in 2025 and remains an Orlando-based manufacturer hand-building each trike to order.
Most popular Catrike models
Catrike builds tadpole trikes for every kind of rider, from neighborhood cruising to long-distance touring and spirited racing. The Pocket is the lightest and most compact in the range, easy to transport and store, with a 30-speed drivetrain. The Villager and the newer All Road seat you higher for easy entry and a commanding view, and the All Road borrows the full-suspension system pioneered on the Dumont. The Trail is the versatile all-rounder, while the MAX adds a wider seat, higher weight capacity, and Adjustable Assist Bars for effortless mounting and dismounting.
At the performance end, the Expedition is the long-running touring workhorse, the 5.5.9 is the grand-touring flagship built for high-mileage rides, and the 700 is the high-racer with a 700c rear wheel for speed. The Dumont stays the full-suspension flagship and folds for storage. Every model is now offered as an electric eCat version with Bosch assist, and those battery, motor, and controller systems push replacement values past $8,000 on the top trims, which is the kind of value electric bike insurance from Velosurance is built to protect.
