About Focus

Focus was founded by a cyclocross world champion. Mike Kluge, three times world champion, started the brand with Derby Cycle Werke in Cloppenburg, Germany, in 1992, and the first production line rolled out six mountain bikes in 1994. Kluge sold the company to Derby Cycle in 1999, and Derby now belongs to the Dutch group Pon Holdings alongside Cervelo, Santa Cruz, and Gazelle.

Racing followed. Focus supplied Team Milram in 2009, Katusha in 2011 and 2012, and AG2R La Mondiale from 2013, and the Izalco Max still carries the UCI sticker. Today the bikes are developed in Stuttgart and tested and assembled in Emstek, with a range that has shifted toward Bosch and Fazua e-MTBs.

Focus set up a US subsidiary in 2009, but as of September 2026 it has no US store, dealer network, or distributor, and its warranty applies only in countries where it sells directly. Most Focus bikes on American roads and trails were bought before the brand left, and they still need coverage.

Most popular Focus models

Road and gravel come first. The Izalco Max is the UCI-compliant aero road bike, sold from the 8.7 to the 9.9, the Paralane is the endurance road bike, and the Atlas is the gravel and bikepacking platform with 53mm front tire clearance, in aluminum and carbon. The Raven is the carbon cross-country hardtail and the Jam is the unpowered trail bike. A carbon race frame with no dealer left to call is what dedicated road bike insurance is written for.

E-MTBs are the bulk of the range. The Jam² is the trail e-MTB on a Bosch Performance Line CX motor, the Sam² is the enduro bike with 600Wh or 800Wh batteries, and the Thron² is the touring e-MTB with ABS on the top builds. The Jam² SL and Vam² SL are the light e-MTBs, the Vam² SL on a Fazua Ride 60 with a 430Wh battery, while the Aventura² and Jarifa² cover touring and hardtail e-bikes. Focus lists no US prices, so the ranges below are its euro list prices from focus-bikes.com.

Focus factory warranty

Focus's Warranty: What It Covers and Where It Stops

Focus extends its manufacturer's warranty to six years on carbon frames and forks and ten years on e-bike aluminium frames. Five terms decide what that is worth to you.

  • Six years on carbon frames and forks

Since model year 2013, FOCUS carbon frames, and the carbon fork on road bikes, are covered against processing or material faults for 6 years. Paintwork on carbon frames is covered for 2 years, and paint damage after delivery or from UV exposure is excluded.

  • Ten years on e-bike and s-pedelec aluminium frames

Frames of e-bike and s-pedelec aluminium models carry a 10-year warranty against faults that lead to cracking or breakage. The prescribed regular servicing must be done by an authorized dealer and recorded in the service history log.

  • Register within eight weeks or it never starts

Both extended warranties activate only when the bike is registered online with all required details within 8 weeks of the purchase date. The warranty is not transferable, does not apply to hire bikes, and covers only complete bikes, not frames bought on their own.

  • Claims go through a FOCUS dealer, and the clock does not reset

Warranty claims are handled by a specialist FOCUS dealer, who supplies and fits the replacement frame or fork. A repair or replacement does not extend the warranty period, and a discontinued model is replaced with a suitable current one, possibly in a different colour.

  • Defects only: wear, aging, and crashes are not covered

The warranty covers processing and material faults, not normal wear and tear or aging, and FOCUS runs a separate Crash Replacement program for damaged frames. Those are the losses a Velosurance policy is built for.

Summary of the FOCUS Bikes Manufacturer's Warranty, reviewed September 30, 2026. Applies to the original (first) owner of a complete new FOCUS bike, registered online within 8 weeks of purchase, and only in countries where FOCUS sells its bikes directly. Elsewhere, including the United States, owners are referred to the importer or a local dealer for statutory rights. The manufacturer decides every warranty claim, and its full published terms govern.
