Is there a cancellation fee?
Last updated
There is no cancellation fee. You can cancel your policy at any time without a penalty charge. The one thing that applies is the Minimum Earned Premium, which is simply the $100 minimum cost of any policy.
Here is how that plays out. Once you have paid $100 in premium, the Minimum Earned Premium is satisfied, and canceling from that point returns any unused premium to you. Cancel earlier, before $100 has been earned, and the balance up to $100 is what remains due. So the simplest way to owe nothing extra is to keep the policy until you have paid $100 in premium.
When you are ready, you cancel yourself in the Client Portal using the Cancel policy link. No paperwork, no phone call required.
What is the Minimum Earned Premium?
It is the minimum amount of premium a policy earns, set at $100. On a $300 annual premium paid at $25 a month, you reach $100 after four months and have met the minimum, so a cancellation after that is simply prorated. Cancel at two months instead, having paid $50, and $50 remains due to reach the $100 minimum. Full details are in our Minimum Earned Premium answer.
How do I cancel without paying a fee?
Every cancellation is fee-free. Log in to the Client Portal, open your policy, and click the Cancel policy link, and you will receive a refund of any unused premium beyond the Minimum Earned Premium. See the full cancellation steps for more.
