The USA Cycling member discount
Active USA Cycling members receive a 10% discount on the bicycle coverage premium of a Velosurance policy. USA Cycling is the Olympic-recognized national governing body for the sport, and any active annual membership qualifies — base, race-licensed, junior, international, or role-based. The discount stacks with the multi-bike discount on the same policy.
Discount
10% off the bicycle coverage premium for any cyclist with an active USA Cycling membership at the time the policy is bound or renewed.
Who qualifies
Any active USA Cycling annual membership, including base-only, race-licensed, junior, international, and role-based add-ons such as coach, mechanic, or commissaire. One-day and event-day memberships do not qualify.
Stacking
Combines with the multi-bike discount on the same policy. A two-bike USAC member pays 20% less on the bicycle coverage premium; three or more bikes earn 25%.
Juniors
USA Cycling junior memberships are currently free. Policies must be written in the name of a policyholder at least 18 years old; for riders 12 and up, the parent or guardian holds the policy and adds the junior as a named rider.
USA Cycling and the member discount
USA Cycling is the national governing body for competitive cycling in the United States, sanctioning thousands of road, mountain, cyclocross, gravel, track, and BMX events every year. Whether you race weekly criteriums, line up for state championship time trials, register for endurance gravel events, or simply hold a base membership to ride in your local club's sanctioned events, your USA Cycling membership reflects a level of engagement and skill that Velosurance recognizes with a 10% discount on your bicycle coverage premium.
USA Cycling's authority comes from dual recognition: it is the National Governing Body for the sport under the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee, and the U.S. national federation recognized by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). That dual designation is what allows USA Cycling to select and field the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic cycling teams across road, track, mountain bike, and BMX disciplines, and it is what gives a USA Cycling license its weight at any UCI-sanctioned event abroad. The same governing body that credentials Olympians also issues the license a Tuesday-night crit racer carries.
The discount is not limited to category racers. USA Cycling restructured its membership program around a base membership plus an array of role-based add-ons such as race license, coach, mechanic, commissaire, event organizer, and support staff. Anyone holding an active base membership qualifies for the Velosurance discount, regardless of whether they have raced in the current year or hold a competitive license.
Why we offer the USA Cycling member discount
Velosurance was founded by cyclists, and the discount for USA Cycling members is part of how we support the broader cycling community in the United States. USA Cycling sanctions thousands of events each year, develops junior racers, certifies coaches and officials, and credentials the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams. Membership dues fund all of that work, and the 10% Velosurance discount is one way we recognize the engagement that USA Cycling membership represents.
Coverage that matters to USA Cycling members
Race-day risk is the obvious concern for any licensed cyclist, but it is rarely the largest exposure. Most claims that Velosurance pays for racing cyclists involve damage or theft outside of sanctioned events: a chase vehicle that left a bike on a roof rack overnight, a hotel parking garage that was less secure than expected, a training-ride crash on a wet descent, a frame damaged in transit on the way to a stage race. Velosurance policies cover all of these scenarios within the United States, with optional worldwide coverage available for athletes who race or train abroad.
Crash damage is a particularly important coverage for racers. A high-speed crit crash can total a $10,000 race bike in a single second, and most homeowners and renters policies either exclude crash damage entirely or treat it as a depreciated personal property claim. Velosurance pays out at the agreed value, which is set when the policy is issued and does not depreciate over the bike's life.
Theft and travel coverage apply whether the bike is taken from a vehicle, a hotel room, or a race venue, and whether it is shipped, driven, or flown to its destination. Liability coverage, when added, protects the policyholder against claims arising from incidents involving other riders, pedestrians, or vehicles — a real concern for cyclists who train on shared roads and ride in fast group settings.
One important note for USA Cycling members: holding an active USA Cycling membership does not automatically add race coverage to a Velosurance policy. Race coverage is a separate selection, elected during the quoting process by choosing "competitive usage," and it can be added or removed at any point during the policy term. Many racers opt in only for the duration of their racing season and remove the coverage during the off-season, which keeps the premium aligned with actual exposure.

Two extras built into every Velosurance Physical Damage policy are especially relevant for USA Cycling members who race.
Rental reimbursement pays up to $250 per occurrence toward a substitute bike when a covered loss takes your bike out of commission while you are more than 50 miles from the insured location for an organized event, trip, or race, with no deductible.
Competitive event fee reimbursement pays up to $500 per event (and up to $1,000 per policy year) toward nonrefundable entry fees when a covered loss prevents you from competing, and it can be used twice per policy year for separate events. Both come standard, at no additional premium.
Eligible USA Cycling membership categories
Velosurance accepts any active USA Cycling annual membership as proof of eligibility for the 10% discount. That includes the base membership, race license add-ons across all disciplines, junior memberships (which USA Cycling currently offers at no cost for athletes under nineteen), international licenses for UCI-sanctioned events, and role-based add-ons such as coach, mechanic, and event organizer. As long as the membership is active at the time of policy issue or renewal, the discount applies.
Riders who hold a one-day or event-day membership rather than an annual membership are not eligible for the discount, because the membership lapses immediately after the event ends. However, those riders can become eligible at any time during the policy term simply by upgrading to an annual membership and notifying Velosurance, after which the discount is applied prospectively.
Stacking the USA Cycling discount with other Velosurance discounts
USA Cycling members who insure more than one bike on the same policy qualify for both the USA Cycling discount and the multi-bike discount. A road racer who also owns a cyclocross or gravel bike for off-season training, for example, gets a 10% multi-bike discount and a 10% USA Cycling discount on a two-bike policy. Adding a third bike steps the multi-bike discount up to 15% while the USA Cycling discount remains at 10%.
How to apply the USA Cycling discount
Applying the discount is simple. When you request a quote, you will be asked whether you hold an active USA Cycling membership. The discount is applied automatically before the premium is finalized, with no separate application or coupon code required. We may request your membership number at some point to confirm eligibility, but this does not delay or otherwise affect the quote itself.
On renewal, the discount carries forward as long as the membership is still active. Velosurance verifies membership status at each renewal cycle. If your USA Cycling membership lapses during the policy term, the existing discount is honored through the end of the term; renewal of the discount the following year depends on whether the membership has been renewed.
Junior racers, development teams, and family policies
USA Cycling's junior membership for athletes under nineteen is currently issued at no cost, which makes it possible for development-age racers to qualify their household for the Velosurance USA Cycling discount without any out-of-pocket membership expense. When a junior racer's bike is scheduled on a family policy alongside a parent's road or gravel bike, the household receives both the multi-bike discount and the USA Cycling discount on the bicycle coverage premium.
One eligibility detail worth knowing: a Velosurance policy must be written in the name of a policyholder who is at least eighteen years old. For junior racers age twelve and up, the parent or guardian takes out the policy in their own name and adds the junior as a named rider on the same policy. This is the standard path through which junior bikes are scheduled, and it is how the junior USA Cycling membership flows into the household's discount calculation.
Development teams and junior race programs frequently ask about insurance options for the bikes they provide to their riders. While team-owned bikes themselves require a different kind of policy structure, individual junior racers riding their own bikes are well served by a Velosurance policy, and the combination of the free junior USA Cycling membership and the Velosurance discount makes that coverage particularly accessible.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a racing license to qualify, or is the base membership enough?
The base membership is enough. Any active USA Cycling annual membership qualifies — base-only, race-licensed, junior, international, or role-based add-ons such as coach, mechanic, or commissaire. USA Cycling restructured its program around a base + add-on model, and Velosurance recognizes any active annual membership equally.
Are one-day or event-day USA Cycling memberships eligible?
No. One-day and event-day memberships lapse immediately after the event ends, so they do not qualify for the Velosurance discount. If you upgrade to an annual membership during the policy term, you can notify Velosurance and have the discount applied prospectively.
Can a junior racer's bike be covered on a Velosurance policy?
Yes. A Velosurance policy must be written in the name of a policyholder who is at least eighteen years old. For a junior racer age twelve or older, the parent or guardian takes out the policy in their own name and adds the junior as a named rider on the same policy. The junior's free USA Cycling membership qualifies the household for the 10% discount.
Does the USA Cycling discount stack with the multi-bike discount?
Yes. The two are separate categories and apply together. A two-bike policy held by a USA Cycling member receives both the 10% multi-bike discount and the 10% USA Cycling discount on the bicycle coverage premium. Adding a third bike steps the multi-bike portion up to 15% while the USA Cycling discount remains at 10%.
What happens to my discount if my USA Cycling membership lapses during the policy term?
The discount is honored through the end of the policy term in which the membership lapsed. Renewal of the discount the following year depends on whether the underlying USA Cycling membership has been renewed by the time Velosurance verifies status at policy renewal.
Does my USA Cycling membership automatically include race coverage on my policy?
No. Race coverage is a separate selection elected during the quoting process by choosing "competitive usage." It can be added or removed at any point during the policy term (for example, opted in for the racing season and removed during the off-season), so the premium tracks actual exposure.
